The pleasingly named Kentucky Owl brand dates back to the late 19th century, when it was founded by C.M. Dedman. Like many American whiskey companies, Kentucky Owl lay dormant for many years.
In 2014 it was revived by Dixon Dedman, a descendant of the original founder. A few years later, the Luxembourg based Stoli Group acquired the brand, and constructed a new distillery under the name.
This particular bottling takes its title from an event in Kentucky Owl’s history. Just before Prohibition came into force, the American government confiscated several barrels of whisky from C.M. Dedman, that were never seen again.
The dram itself offers up notes of caramel, oak, rye spice, slight leather, cinnamon, biscuits, tobacco, sweet grain, cornbread, butter, slight chocolate, caramelised citrus rind, cherries and baked apples with cloves and nutmeg.
Bottled at 48.2% ABV, this is a rich, intense Bourbon. Beautifully presented with an old-timey label.
